Out 5-6 months after surgery

Steffen (shoulder) underwent successful shoulder surgery and is expected to miss approximately five to six months, the club announced.

Analysis: Steffen has made 78 appearances across all competitions for Colorado since joining from Manchester City in January 2024, logging 7,022 minutes and recording 12 clean sheets during his time with the club. In MLS regular season play, the 31-year-old ranks among the club's all-time leaders in multiple goalkeeping categories including fourth in winning percentage at 49.23 percent, sixth in minutes played and seventh in appearances and saves. His absence will extend well into the second half of the MLS season, with Nicholas Defreitas Hansen expected to step into the starting role between the posts while Steffen works through his recovery.

Dealing with shoulder injury

Steffen is out for the time being due to a shoulder injury, and manager Matt Wells said it's uncertain whether the goalkeeper will be back before the World Cup break, according to Burgundy Wave.

Analysis: Steffen seems set for a spell on the sidelines due to the injury, as Colorado won't take any risks regarding his availability. Nicholas Defreitas Hansen should move to a starting role as long as Steffen remains out.

Out with upper body injury

Steffen has been ruled out for Wednesday's clash with Minnesota United because of an upper body injury.

Analysis: Steffen is Colorado's starting goalkeeper and one of the more experienced keepers in MLS, so his injury implies a very significant absence for the Rapids. Nicholas Defreitas Hansen will likely start between the posts while the Steffen is unavailable. His return to full health is expected to depend on his recovery progress, and the nature of the upper body problem will determine whether this is a short-term absence or something requiring more time.

Concedes once Saturday

Steffen had four saves and allowed one goal in Saturday's 1-0 loss against Houston Dynamo.

Analysis: Steffen conceded one goal Saturday, a Lawrence Ennali strike from outside the box in the 72nd minute. That was the only goal scored in the contest. Steffen also made four saves for the fourth time this season, including his second match in a row. He faces a favorable matchup Saturday versus St. Louis City, a side which has scored just nine goals through 10 matches this season.

Steffen recorded five saves and allowed three goals in Saturday's 3-1 loss versus Vancouver Whitecaps FC.

Analysis: Steffen let in three goals while making five saves during the loss to vancouver on Saturday.
